Vintage Roland SH-09 Synthesiser Sample Pack

The SH series could be considered one of Roland’s most exalted series of synthesisers ranging from the somewhat aesthetically self-effacing SH-101 that helped shape House, Techno and Electro music to what it is today to the truly intergalactic motherboard that is the SH-5. However, few in the SH series have the bravado and grit of the SH-09. It’s distinctive killer bass patches and screaming leads have ended up in many dance classics and obscurities over the last 30 years and felt we needed to share its rugged and unique sounds with you all.

We also made extensive use of the 09’s external input feature (The filter, LFO and envelope can be used with incoming sounds) where we layered patches with the TT-303 in addition to harmonically distorting sounds by taking the signal out of the 'phones out' and putting it directly into the external filter creating a feedback loop that sounds terrifyingly huge and aggressive.

Each sample you hear was individually recorded (no digital transposing/pitching here) with each note giving slight change in timbre for every sample. It was tracked and EQ’d through our Soundcraft Series 800B mixing console (Sample Selection A) and our Allen & Heath System 8 Mixing Desk (Sample Selection B) after which it was recorded to logic Pro X using our Fireface UC interface where each sample was hand crafted.
